A Bit About Me
I currently live in Oregon, and I love being in the Pacific Northwest. I see nature and beauty all around. I love exploring this area and sharing the love of exploration with my children. I have a 13-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter, whom I homeschool. I have been married to my fabulous, supportive husband for almost 16 years. I am active in my faith as a Jehovah's Witness and enjoy sharing that with others. I don't have a lot of hobbies as a busy mom, but I love doing anything outdoors, plus a good British drama! My family loves to travel and explore new cultures and ways of doing things. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many places around the world with my family. It's personally important to me to share different ideas, concepts, cultures, and countries with my kids.
Educational Background
I embarked on my educational journey at Shasta College in Redding, CA, back in 2006. Initially, my academic focus was on fire science, but I soon discovered my true passion lied within the realm of natural resources. Subsequently, I made the decision to transfer to Cal Poly Humboldt, where I pursued a major in forestry. However, due to family reasons, I chose to leave the forestry program just two months shy of graduating. This was an immensely challenging decision, and at the time, I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to complete my education.
2023 brought significant changes to both my career and personal life. I found myself contemplating alternative career paths, which ultimately led me to explore project management. I embarked on a certificate course in project management, only to realize that many of the positions I aspired to require a bachelor's degree in addition to certification. It was during this phase that I sought guidance from an advisor at Cal Poly Humboldt, who connected me with Professor Robertson. It was through this interaction that I discovered the perfect fit for my new career aspirations - the Individualized Degree Program (IDP).
The Individualized Degree Program has allowed me to fuse my entire educational journey together. I resolved to specialize in project management for a land use agency. This career choice would enable me to harness interdisciplinary thinking, drawing from my background in natural resources and forestry, in tandem with my project management skills. My eight years of prior experience working with various land use agencies further reinforced the suitability of this combination for my career objectives.
As a reflection of this unique blend, My individualized degree plan is titled "Forestry and Natural Resources Administration." This title encapsulates the fusion of disciplines that defines my long-term career goals.
Key Skills and Interests
My current goal is to work in project management. I would love to work in this field for the Department of Agriculture or the Department of the Interior. Project management is right up my alley because I love the idea of bringing different teams, ideas, concepts, and disciplines together to complete a task. I am highly organized and pay attention to detail. I care deeply about my work and the outcomes of what I do. I also love nature and want to combine my skills in project management with making a positive impact on the environment.
